HITC Sport understands Lincoln City striker Matt Green is poised to join Salford City.

Lincoln City’s Matt Green

Salford City are closing in on the signing of experienced striker Matt Green from League Two hopefuls Lincoln City, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Salford City boss Graham Alexander is keen to bolster his attacking options in the January transfer window and has targeted a move for Green.

Salford are currently second in the National League and Alexander sees Green as someone who can aid their promotion bid with his goals and experience.

Green has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in Danny Cowley’s Lincoln side this season, despite finishing as top scorer last season with 17 goals.

Scott Brown and an emotional Celtic farewell

The 31-year-old has started just two games in League Two so far this season, but he has still managed to net six goals in all competitions this term.

Lincoln are ready to let the former Birmingham City and Cardiff striker move on as he is unlikely to break into their side as they chase promotion from League Two.

A number of clubs have shown an interest in Green, but ambitious Salford have moved quickly for the ex-Mansfield Town hit-man and are hopeful of persuading him to drop down in to the National League.
