Newcastle United are said to be keen on signing Nicolas Tagliafico in January.

According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle United want Nicolas Tagliafico and he would be a major upgrade on Rafael Benitez’s current options at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle have been long-term admirers of Tagliafico, who is currently impressing at Ajax.

Rafael Benitez’s side made a move for the left-back in the summer, but he was deemed too expensive.

However, Newcastle are now said to be interested in Tagliafico again, and if he was to arrive he would be a huge upgrade on Benitez’s current options.

While Paul Dummett is a solid defender, the Welshman does not have the forward-thinking capabilities to be a leading player at Premier League level.

Javier Manquillo, meanwhile, has been in encouraging form of late, but relying on him would be a big risk for Newcastle, given his previous poor performances.

Tagliafico, on the other hand, is the complete full-back - as he possesses strong defensive qualities and also loves to get forward.

The Argentine has impressed in Dutch football and at Champions League level this season.

And if Newcastle can bring him to St. James’ Park then he would be a very impressive addition to Benitez’s squad.
