Sunderland boss Jack Ross is reportedly keen to snap up Jermain Defoe in the January transfer window.

According to The Sunday People (print edition, page 49, December 16, 2018), Sunderland are interested in signing Jermain Defoe, and if they can bring in the veteran forward it may be the promotion clinging addition.

Sunderland are currently sat in third place in the League One table, just one point outside of the automatic promotion spaces.

The Black Cats have enjoyed an excellent first half of the campaign, but Defoe’s arrival could take them on to new heights.

Granted, Defoe may not be match sharp, but he would surely be the finest finisher in the third tier.

The 36-year-old is loved at Sunderland, and a return to the Stadium of Light could be perfect for him at this stage of his career.

If Defoe was to return to Sunderland he could destroy League One defences.

Defoe’s experience and predatory instincts are far above any other striker in the division.

And if there is any chance of completing the deal, Sunderland should make it their number one priority in January, as Defoe’s arrival would significantly improve their chances of promotion.
