Everton defender Leighton Baines had the chance to move away from Goodison Park in the summer.

Leighton Baines may well be wishing that he took his chance to move away from Everton and to MLS now.

The Times had reported that Baines was wanted by the Portland Timbers in the summer, but the veteran decided full-back decided that he was better off sticking with Everton.

Baines’ choice looked to have been the right one initially, as he started the campaign in Marco Silva’s side.

However, as the months have passed, he has been displaced, and it is now very hard to see him breaking back into Everton’s starting line-up.

Lucas Digne has been brought in by Everton this season, and the Frenchman has caught the eye ever since arriving.

Digne looks to be an upgrade on Baines, who has shown signs of age in recent times.

The former Barcelona man has offered Everton dynamism down the left-hand side, with his displays making him a firm favourite of the Goodison Park crowd.

Digne has now made Everton’s left-back position his own.

And while Baines obviously has a strong affinity with Everton, he may be feeling that a move to America in the summer would have been a smart decision now.
