Tottenham Hotspur will go toe-to-toe with Everton for the Portuguese star, according to reports.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are set to challenge Everton for the permanent signing of Andre Gomes in January.

Everton will try and make the move permanent next month but, according to The Telegraph, Tottenham will rival the Goodison Park side for his signature.

The report adds that Gomes - who was watched by Spurs' head scout Steve Hitchen during the Merseyside derby earlier this month - may wait until next summer to make a decision on his future.

The Lilywhites were linked before he joined Marco Silva's side and how Tottenham fans would love to see him in their midfield.

It seems unlikely that Mousa Dembele will be staying in North London beyond the expiration of his contract next summer, meaning that there may be room for the Portugal international in Mauricio Pochettino's squad.

His buyout clause represents an obvious problem for both Premier League sides and it's improbable that a transfer would materialise unless the Catalan giants accepted a lower amount for the former Valencia maestro.
