Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Tonny Vilhena.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Feyenoord midfielder Tonny Vilhena according to Calciomercato, and fans may have been left a little underwhelmed.

Spurs undoubtedly need a midfielder in 2019, possibly two. Mousa Dembele is likely to move on with his contract coming to an end next summer, and Victor Wanyama’s future is up in the air too.

A left-footed midfielder may be wanted to replace Dembele purely from a balance perspective, but with the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Amadou Diawara all linked, Spurs fans may have been looking for a bigger name than Vilhena.

The 23-year-old has come up through the Feyenoord ranks, and has racked up more than 200 appearances for the Rotterdam club, whilst he also bagged 13 goals from midfield last season.

A Dutch international with three caps to his name, Vilhena could be a smart if understated signing for Spurs, especially in light of new comments from Ronald de Boer.

The Dutch legend watched Vilhena star in the 4-1 win over FC Emmen on Sunday, and has now been quoted by Voetbal Flitsen as saying that Vilhena reminds him of Chelsea star N’Golo Kante.

“He really was the best man on the field,” said De Boer. “His drive, his depth, it’s about the intention. You have to come. Both offensive and defensive, of incredible value for Feyenoord. What is this boy suitable for? I compare him a bit with N’Golo Kanté, a hard worker and then he can take a step further,” he added.

De Boer is clearly a huge fan of Vilhena both in terms of attacking and defending, and whilst Spurs fans may have been underwhelmed at first, they should be excited at the idea of landing their very own Kante in 2019.
