A number of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at the news that Florian Lejeune came through 45 minutes for the under-23s as the defender pushes towards full fitness.

Lejeune has been unavailable to Rafa Benitez all season after sustaining a knee injury in the summer. But he has made a remarkably rapid recovery, and appears to be not too far away from providing Benitez with a timely boost.

He was included in the starting lineup for the clash with Norwich City on Monday night, and managed to get 45 minutes under his belt before he was replaced at the break.

It would be a surprise if he appeared in Benitez's lineup anytime soon, but it is unquestionably an exciting sign for the Magpies that he is forcing his way back into the picture after a superb first season at St James' Park.

Understandably, several Magpies fans are delighted that Lejeune is edging closer to making a return. Newcastle actually boast the best defensive record in the bottom-half of the Premier League, but some of the Toon Army clearly feel that his presence will improve their situation further.

A couple of fans believe that he is actually Benitez's best centre-back when everyone is fit, while others are sure that he gets into Newcastle's strongest side and are pleased that he could soon be available for selection.
