Jermain Lens produced one of the finest individual performances in this season’s Europa League a fortnight ago, ensuring Besitkas’s 3-2 comeback win against Sarpsborg with two stunning goals, either side of a pinpoint assist.
According to Fotomac, scouts from Leeds United were in attendance. And it is no surprise to learn that they were very impressed by the performance of the 31-year-old Dutchman.
Aksam has an update on suggestions that Lens could be a target for Marcelo Bielsa’s side heading into the January transfer window. It is believed that Leeds will attempt to sign the former Dinamo Kiev forward on an initial loan deal, with an option to buy him permanently at the end of the season should he impress at Elland Road.
This is potentially the most sensible approach.
Lens is undoubtedly a talented player, but there is no way of knowing whether he would be a roaring success or an unmitigated failure in West Yorkshire.
The Holland international was certainly the latter during a dreadful spell at Sunderland; inconsistent performances and question marks about his attitude making a mockery of his £13 million price-tag, as reported by the Guardian.
