Celtic and Rangers are closely matched in the league at present and January looks set to be a huge month behind the scenes.

Both clubs need a new striker, and this could end up defining the title race.

Rangers' need is more obvious, with Alfredo Morelos too inconsistent and at times a liability when it comes to ill discipline.

Kyle Lafferty has so far been underwhelming since returning to the club.


Behind them, they are reliant on youth options, with loanee Umar Sadiq failing to convince manager Steven Gerrard.

Celtic also have a need to add another striker after selling Moussa Dembele on deadline day.

Odsonne Edouard has found it tough to be consistent in both domestic and European competition and has scored fewer league goals than Morelos.

Leigh Griffiths has had injury problems and has only two league goals this season. He missed a penalty in midweek to add to his woes.

The pair need fresh competition up front and Brendan Rodgers must be highlighting this to the board.

Both Rangers and Celtic need to add strikers.

Whichever club strikes the better deal could end up being the one who wins the title.
