Newcastle youth coach Dawson confirmed that Sorensen had interest in him earlier this week.
The young striker has been in wonderful form for the Magpies’ development side, for whom he has netted 15 goals this term.
But Benitez is not set on letting either Longstaff or Sorensen go just yet.
Indeed the Newcastle boss suggests that keeping the pair around may be the best option.
"At the moment we aren't thinking about anything too much,” he said, when asked about the future of the young pair.
"We have to sit down with Ben Dawson and work out the best option for the club and player.
"They may go and play games but they may not do what they have to do.
"They will have more experience in playing competitions but maybe they will lose part of their development.
"Sometimes they need to stay with us to be sure they can move faster in their career."
Longstaff has recently penned a new contract with Newcastle, which shows how highly he is rated by Benitez.
The midfielder is considered to be one of the club’s best prospects, but he has struggled for game time so far this campaign.
