Everton endured a frustrating night as they drew 1-1 at Goodison Park in a game which saw Ademola Lookman make his first start of the season.
A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Ademola Lookman’s display during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Wednesday night, with many criticising the forward’s performance on a frustrating night for Marco Silva’s men.
Everton dominated possession against the Magpies, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock through Salomon Rondon. The home side felt aggrieved as Lookman appeared to be fouled before the counter attack began.
Richarlison would equalise not long before the break, but the Toffees were unable to find a winner against Rafa Benitez’s men, who struggled to land many punches apart from Rondon’s well-taken goal.
Lookman was given the chance to make his first Premier League start of the season. Given the excitement the 21-year-old generates, it is a start that plenty of fans have been calling for for a while, but many now appear to be less convinced about his position in the side.
Some have insisted that the £11 million signing (via BBC Sport) deserves more opportunities before he is at all written off, but others have not been as kind in their assessment of his performance.
As shown by Whoscored, the former Charlton Athletic man managed one attempt on goal throughout the game and played just one key pass. He did attempt a number of dribbles, but the fans seemingly want to see a lot more from Lookman after being so keen to see him get his chance in the starting lineup.
With that in mind, here is a look at the reaction to Lookman’s display…
Sorry, Lookman and Tosun, despite being given their chance, offer NOTHING. Expected a reaction tonight. Instead, turgid mediocrity. Only Gomes added any value #evenew— Paul Robinson (@PCR1878) December 6, 2018
Lookman will be sound that was a tough game for everyone tonight. Keep the faith #EFC— Paul Brown (@PaulBrownEFC) December 6, 2018
Oh look, golden boy Lookman gets a game and offers barely nothing to a pathetic performance. Almost as if Silva knew best all along.— The Everton Dream (@TheEvertonDream) December 5, 2018
Also, Tosun is a great guy, but is NOT going to take us where we need to be. Richarlison long term belongs on the left wing, we need a striker
Lookman lacking game time . One good thing with him he just goes passed players— Usm . Blue Heaven Holidings (@stevie1919) December 5, 2018
Lets give Lookman a run of 8-10 games before writing him off after 1 start eh? Not as if Walcott didn’t get a decent run of starts even when he was in poor form.— Stephen Doyle (@1878stevo) December 5, 2018
Many fans, me included, wanted to see Lookman given a start tonight. Disappointed that he didn’t grasp it with both hands. #EFC— C (@chughs67) December 5, 2018
I prefer Walcott to Lookman. Even off form, he offers pace and puts defenders under pressure. Yes, lacks end product at times, but I forgot Lookman was even on the pitch for stretches of time today.— Bluenose smith (@thunderblue1878) December 5, 2018
Thought about tonight’s match all the way home from Goodison and the same thought goes through my head…..@Everton STILL need a striker. A decent Striker and we win that at least 3-1. Tosun, DCL & Lookman are not good enough to help us challenge the top.— Alan Gibbons (@alan_gibbons) December 5, 2018
Seen some unfair shouts writing Lookman off after 1 start – I hope Silva gives the kid a run of games then we can judge— Alex Harrington (@aharry79) December 5, 2018
Hate to say this too, but Ademola Lookman was AWFUL tonight— Gareth Thomas (@gazzaEFC4ever) December 5, 2018
