With Alfredo Morelos being sent off for the third time this season against Aberdeen on Wednesday and Kyle Lafferty without a goal since September, Rangers’ budding young strikers will be hoping that they will get their chance over the festive period or in the New Year.
Zak Rudden has scored seven goals in 11 games during a short-term loan spell at Falkirk while Dapo Mebude has been earning rave reviews for his eye-catching displays for the Rangers reserves.
And Andy Dallas also sent Steven Gerrard a reminder of his qualities with a clinical hat-trick in the 5-0 U20 thrashing of Kilmarnock this week – a display that had youth team coach Graeme Murty singing his praises and saying he was doing ‘remarkably well’.
But who is the most exciting of the three? Rudden could certainly claim it’s him after his two goal performance in the 3-2 win at Inverness at the weekend.
The 18-year-old was rewarded with a place in the SPFL Team of the Week, edging out Morelos despite the Colombian netting his 17th goal of the campaign in Sunday’s 2-1 win at Hearts.
And the praise for Rudden continues to roll in. The teenager has also been nominated for November’s Goal of the Month award for a stunning long-range striker against Dunfermline.
With his loan spell at Falkirk ending in January, Rudden’s outstanding form has surely given Gerrard food for thought.
