Revan has been called up to train with Villa’s senior squad since Smith took charge.
And the youngster’s performances have convinced Smith and John Terry that he is capable of stepping into his senior squad if needed.
Smith said: “Dominic is someone I feel can help us defensively if we need him. He’s got a little bit of pace, he’s comfortable on the ball and he’s impressed all of us since he’s been training with us.”
Revan was named on Villa’s bench at Middlesbrough, although he is yet to make his senior debut.
The youngster would have to displace Axel Tuanzebe or James Chester in Villa’s starting line-up to get his chance, which is easier said than done.
Tuanzebe and Chester have been in excellent form of late, with their partnership helping Villa pick up some impressive results since Smith took over.
The claret and blues won 3-0 at Boro on their last outing to push up to the outskirts of the play offs.
Villa are next in action on Friday evening, when they take on West Bromwich Albion.
