The lesser-spotted Celtic winger was back in action on Wednesday.
Celtic fans are reacting on Twitter to Johnny Hayes' latest Bhoys showing.
Hayes was brought in from the cold to face Motherwell on Wednesday night, for what was only his fourth appearance all season and first since August.
But the former Aberdeen winger, for whom Celtic paid around £1.3 million during last summer's transfer window, was unable to seize his opportunity, despite lasting 81 minutes at Fir Park.
And this is what those of a Bhoys persuasion are saying...
A so want Jonny Hayes to do well at Celtic .. just don’t think he’s gonna cut it .. gaffer made an arse of it tonight too many changes we need to be putting these games away .— Gerry McGowan (@GerryMcGowan1) December 5, 2018
jonny hayes is never a celtic player man— Jaimey Maloney (@jaimey_maloney) December 5, 2018
Johnny Hayes been giving chance after chance. Laddies no going to cut it at Celtic! 2 points dropped tonight Kilmarnock are flying! Sevco choked... Again!— Stephen Roy (@S_Roy84) December 5, 2018
Johnny Hayes no even fit enough tae put on the Celtic warm up tracky— DaleLeverage (@daleleverage95) December 5, 2018
I honestly forgot Jonny Hayes was playing until he got fouled outside the box at around the 50 minute mark.— Labour Celtic Fans (@Labour_Celts) December 5, 2018
He’s just not good enough for Celtic. Not even good enough to be a squad player.
Please tell me that’s the last time ever you need to see what level Jonny Hayes is at. No harm to the guy, he seems like a great lad but he just isn’t good enough. He’s done nothing in a Celtic shirt and he doesn’t have the ability to change that. https://t.co/6DoN95Hy9p— APS (@anththetank) December 5, 2018
Yet to see Jonny Hayes have one good game for Celtic!— CELTICBOB (@CELTICBOB1967) December 5, 2018
Not sure where Rodgers praise for Hayes came from. Never good enough for Celtic.— Ryan Tinney (@TinneyCFC89) December 5, 2018
Johnny Hayes i am sorry too say is nowhere near Celtic class.— Derek Crawford (@deeko1978) December 5, 2018
Hayes should be sitting in a garden with a fishing rod rather than playing for celtic.— Steven mcavoy (@stevenm030) December 5, 2018
Not everyone was feeling quite so critical, mind...
One of Hayes best performances for Celtic in my opinion— Tosh McKinley (@Tosh1967) December 5, 2018
The Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, left out a number of key players following Sunday's League Cup win against Aberdeen, with James Forrest, Tom Rogic, Scott Sinclair and Odsonne Edouard each dropped to the bench.
And those who did play could only conjure up a 1-1 draw against the Well, whose 88th-minute Danny Johnson equaliser cancelled out Ryan Christie's early opener.
The result saw Celtic draw level on points with rivals Rangers, on whom they have a game in hand.
But Kilmarnock, who have played twice more than Celtic, were the evening's biggest winners, leapfrogging the Old Firm pair into first place.
What does the future hold for Hayes at Celtic?
