Shaka Hislop has told ESPN's Transfer Rater that he believes Ruben Loftus-Cheek will leave Chelsea in the January transfer window, but reckons he is too good for the likes of West Ham United and Newcastle United.
The Mirror claims Newcastle and West Ham are joined by Crystal Palace and Bournemouth in the race to sign the England World Cup star, who continues to struggle in his pursuit of first-team football at Chelsea.
The 22-year-old has managed just four Premier League appearances all season, but he has scored two goals in those outings against Burnley and Fulham. He also netted a Europa League hat-trick in a 3-1 win over BATE Borisov.
Former Newcastle and West Ham goalkeeper Hislop is confident that a move for Loftus-Cheek in January is the right decision, but he believes the playmaker's ambition should be above the likes of his former sides.
"He can't get into the team under Maurizio Sarri, a would be good," Hislop said. "But whenever he has featured, I think he looks a very good player. Any number of clubs would be happy have Loftus-Cheek.
"He has been linked West Ham, Newcastle and a few others. I think he's a lot better than those clubs - as much as it hurts me to say that about West Ham and Newcastle."
Loftus-Cheek starred for Crystal Palace last season on loan from Chelsea, earning a place in Gareth Southgate's England World Cup squad. Some impressive performances in Russia suggested that he may be given a chance under Sarri.
But the likes of Ross Barkley, Jorginho, N'Golo Kante and others have been used ahead of Loftus-Cheek, leaving the England ace to fend off scraps. In those scraps, he has performed well. It remains to be seen where he will end up.
