Not for the first time and probably not the last, Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with Mateo Kovacic.
The Croatian World Cup finalist might be on loan at Chelsea right now from Real Madrid but, according to AS English, Spurs are planning to hijack their London rivals’ attempts to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent basis.
Now, Kovacic has seemingly been on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar for some time now. AS claimed in the summer of 2017 that Tottenham had offered £22 million for the former Inter Milan youngster.
And with a season of Premier League football under his belt, would Spurs fans be willing to welcome Kovacic to North London with open arms? Well, maybe not.
Tottenham supporters got the chance to watch Kovacic at first hand as their side welcomed Chelsea to Wembley a week ago and the fact that he was dominated by Moussa Sissoko in the centre of the park meant he didn’t exactly leave a positive lasting impression.
And it seems that there is a number of other central midfielders who Spurs fans would rather see line up in the famous white kit, from PSG’s Adrien Rabiot to Wolves’ Ruben Neves via Everton’s Barcelona loanee Andre Gomes.
Would rather Rabiot— Fraser (@fraser8814) December 4, 2018

Would rather hijack Everton for Gomes, he is running that midfield like he has been there for years, looks a classy player, don’t know why we didn’t get him after being linked all summer— daz_green (@dazgreen10) December 4, 2018
Really don’t get the hype with him... haven’t seen him excel at anything so far— Dan Travers (@dandinithegreat) December 4, 2018
He isn’t good enough— marc worcester (@MarcWorcester) December 4, 2018
Ruben Neves instead please— Craig (@mrcraigo10) December 4, 2018
