HITC Sport understands Swansea are tracking Sunderland defender Tom Flanagan.

Sunderland defender Tom Flanagan is a target for Championship side Swansea City, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Flanagan has impressed at Sunderland since moving to the Stadium of Light in the summer on a free transfer from Burton Albion.

The 26-year-old has established himself as a key man in Jack Ross’ side and has started the last 13 games for the Black Cats.

Versatile defender Flanagan has formed a formidable central defensive partnership with Jack Baldwin in the side and Sunderland have yet to taste defeat in a game when Flanagan has started.

The Northern Ireland international’s impressive displays for Sunderland have not gone unnoticed among clubs higher up the football pyramid with Swansea one of several sides keeping tabs on him.

Swansea have watched Flanagan in action on several occasions this season as they look at defensive targets to bolster their squad in the January transfer window.

Swansea have struggled in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League last season, with the Welsh side currently languishing in 13th spot in the table.

Flanagan has 18 months to run on his contract at Sunderland after signing a two-year deal upon his arrival on Wearside and they would be reluctant to lose him following his fine start to life as a Sunderland player.
