The fact that Wolverhampton Wanderers have been so heavily linked with a number of centre-forwards of late suggest that the pressure is on Raul Jimenez to perform between now and the January transfer window.
And the Mexican international only justified the club’s attempts to sign a replacement against Cardiff City on Friday night.
In truth, Jimenez has divided supporters since he arrived on loan from Benfica. For all those who have lauded his link play and work rate, there are others who have questioned his goal output and with good reason – the 27-year-old has scored just three times in 14 games.
And even Jimenez’s biggest fan will have struggled to stick up for him in South Wales. The former Atletico Madrid man looked out of his depth throughout, dominated by Cardiff skipper Sean Morrison and failing to make any sort of an impression in attack.
He even transpired to miss his clearest chance of the game, flashing a near post header well off target. It simply wasn’t good enough.
So with the Mail claiming that Wolves want Nantes’ Emiliano Sala, the Liverpool Echo linking them with Merseyside derby hero Divock Origi and ESPN stating that they are in talks with prolific Kasimpasa striker Mbaye Diagne, Jimenez must be a worried man.
