A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at the reports emerging from the Sunday People (02/12; page 47) at the weekend suggesting that Albert Adomah is going to sign a new contract with the club.
Adomah is reestablishing himself as an important player at Villa following Dean Smith's appointment. Under Steve Bruce, he appeared to be on his way out the exit (via Sunday People) despite enjoying an excellent spell last season.
The 30-year-old scored 14 goals in the Championship last term, and his record in around two and a half seasons with the Villans stands at 17 goals and 17 assists in the league.
He was excellent in the Second City derby win last month, providing two assists before coming off injured. And that is perhaps why a number of supporters are extremely pleased that Adomah is set to pen fresh terms.
They feel that the winger has more than earned that new contract given the way that he has fought back from the brink of the exit under Bruce.
There are some who feel that it is not a particularly exciting move from the club to keep Adomah when he may not have too much longer at his peak, but the large majority on social media appear to be delighted with the news.
Here is the best of the reaction to the reports...
#AVFC Albert Adomah set to be given a new long term contract. This surprises me, I like Albert a lot but he's a poor man's El Ghazi.— brucemac (@tweetingolfer) December 2, 2018
Genuinely pleased with this news. Moving forward I feel it will be great to have the likes of Adomah with us. He’s a true pro with exactly the right attitude. He won’t play every game but he’ll certainly be an important team member! #avfc he deserves a new deal!— Aaron (@amc89avfc) December 2, 2018
From being in the Bruce bomb squad on deadline day, turned the move down and Now Smith is getting a tune out of him.... I'll be happy if he gets a new deal. I think he's earned it.— Richard Griffiths (@RJG8283) December 2, 2018
Not sure on this. Wont cut it in the premier and he seems to have lost his pace a bit.— Mark Patton (@MarkPatton7) December 2, 2018
Thought he was finished under Bruce but has shown he can do a job under Smith. Works hard and defends with intelligence. Will be a decent squad player for another year.— Harry (@HarryWR19) December 2, 2018
I’m unsure about this myself tbh— B_R_Y_86⚽️ (@B_R_Y_86) December 2, 2018
After all the dodgy contracts we’ve dished out to wasters over the years, he’s genuinely earned his, especially after the way Bruce treated him #avfc— Rich Sullivan (@dickysullivan79) December 2, 2018
I think those that berate Albert need to give their heads a wobble, arguably one of our best players last season, gives his all every game AND with a smile on his face. Hope he does get another contract to be honest— tonyb (@Cornishavfc) December 2, 2018
Well deserved! Not the best player in the squad and went missing on some games under Bruce but has dug in and earned a new contract in my opinion.— chris darlaston✋ (@cdarl67) December 2, 2018
More than earned it— Terry McEvilly (@TerryAvfc91) December 2, 2018
