Championship giants Leeds United are reportedly hoping to sign Rangers goalkeeper Foderingham - could Alnwick now save his Scottish Premiership career?

Jak Alnwick’s Rangers career looked over when he was loaned out to Scunthorpe United in the summer transfer window.

The goalkeeper had dropped down to third in the pecking order once Allan McGregor had sealed his return to Ibrox on a free transfer from Hull City and it seemed unlikely that he would ever play for the Glasgow giants again.

But, in a sudden twist of fate, could Alnwick soon be given a chance to save his Rangers career?

According to The Express, Gers’ number two Wes Foderingham could be on his way out in January with Leeds United keen to bring the former Swindon Town stopper back to England.

Foderingham has made just one league appearance under Steven Gerrard this season and his impressive reflexes and intelligent distribution could make him a perfect fit for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who recently lost Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman to a broken leg.

And should Foderingham depart in the winter, this would coincide with the end of Alnwick’s loan spell at Scunthorpe. So the former Newcastle youngster could return to Ibrox and find himself bumped up the pecking order.

Alnwick has been hugely impressive at Glanford Park, earning plenty of praise from fans and teammates alike. With McGregor set to turn 37 in January, could he be Rangers’ number one in the near future?
