Reported £35m Tottenham target Allan comments on Arturo Vidal comparisons

Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino smiles ahead of the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC at Wembley on September 15, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set aside £35m bring to bring Napoli's tiresome Serie A midfielder Allan to the Premier League.

Another day, another central midfielder linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

27-year-old Napoli ace Allan appears to be the latest name said to be on Spurs’ radar with Calcio Napoli 24 reporting earlier this week that the Premier League giants had set aside £35 million to bring him to North London in the January transfer window.

But what would Tottenham be getting in the former Udinese midfielder, a man who made his Brazil debut in the November international break in a 1-0 win against Uruguay. Well, Allan himself has done a good job at defining his style – admitting that he shares certain similarities with the Barcelona powerhouse Arturo Vidal.

“The Vidal comparisons? It is true that we are a bit similar, we have similar styles of play,” the Brazilian told Goal.

Vidal, a title winner with Juventus and Bayern Munich who moved to Barcelona over the summer, has established himself over the best part of a decade as one of the most talented and ferocious box-to-box midfielders anywhere in world football.

So if Allan does arrive in North London - which is far from guaranteed given Napoli’s desire to keep him - Tottenham would have a man capable of offering a tiresome presence at both ends of the pitch.

Whether Allan is capable of matching the standards set by Vidal, however, is up for debate. Though the fact that the Samba star has been a regular starter under both Maurizio Sarri and Carlo Ancelotti in Italy speaks volumes about his quality.
