Daniel Farke’s normally prolific Norwich City side looked unusually challenged in front of goal on Tuesday night. After scoring four times in each of their last three Championship games - against Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and Swansea - The Canaries saw their wings clipped in a disappointing goalless draw at Hull City.
And it’s fair to say that Tom Trybull missed his chance – in more ways than one. The German midfielder has been restricted to just five Championship starts this season, but was handed a rare opportunity by Daniel Farke with Moritz Leitner injured.
Though Trybull not only struggled to replicate the probing creativity of the former Borussia Dortmun man, he also spurned the game’s best chance, missing the target with a free header from less than eight yards out.
Norwich Head coach Farke observed after the game that Trybull had wasted a ‘golden chance’ (Pink ‘Un), and his largely ineffective performance will hardly boost his hopes of a more regular place in the Norwich XI. It seems that Leitner (below) cannot return quickly enough.
Spot on, Trybull, for whatever reason, just doesn't look fit.— Ginja (@ginjadave) November 27, 2018
An off day but still top of the league! Trybull missing an absolute sitter costing us.— Steven Garnham (@Steven_Garnham) November 27, 2018
Just show how reliant we are to Leitner!! Trybull poor !! Bit worrying we don’t have a lot of back up in tht area— Jason Edward Clarke (@jasonclarke89) November 27, 2018
Did think it was odd having Trybull replace Leitner; doesn't seem to be able to operate in that role, more suited to the Tettey position. Surely Vrancic would have been a more like for like choice?— Max Gent (@Max_Gent) November 27, 2018
Why can’t we just clone Moritz Leitner for these kind of situations. Massively missed him tonight. Trybull not up to it #ncfc— Adam (@NCFC_Adam) November 27, 2018
Another lesson learned that Trybull/Tettey has no creativity, makesus lacking going forward. Also strange how little Farke makes use of Rhodes. Game was crying for Rhodes from 60th minute.— Griff (@jabbidabbadoo) November 28, 2018
