Some reports have suggested that Aston Villa want to sign Cole.
Aston Villa are reportedly one of a number of Championship sides to be considering free agent Ashley Cole after MLS outfit LA Galaxy decided against offering him a new deal - and Villa fans have reacted on Twitter.
The Sun claim 37-year-old Cole has turned down an offer of £5,000 a week to remain at LA Galaxy, despite his current contract seeing him earn more than double that at £10,900 a week.
The report claims that it is understood Villa are one of the Championship sides interested in landing the 107-time England international, which would see Cole form a reunion with John Terry who is the club's assistant manager.
Derby County are also said to be interested - again a reunion would be made between Cole and manager Frank Lampard. Cole is said to be keen on a return to English football.
Cole has not played in England since leaving Chelsea in 2014 to join Italian side AS Roma, were he struggled. He played just 16 times before moving to the States with LA Galaxy, where he has remained since January 2016.
Cole has been in sensational form for LA, making 32 appearances at left-back and having a hand in 10 goals - scoring once and turning provider another nine times.
Now, he is expected to move on. Villa fans reacted on Twitter, with some urging their club to land the experienced left-back as cover for Neil Taylor, but some believe he is past it.
#avfc need to offer a deal to Ashley Cole. Still class.— Mr Thompson (@mrthompson81) November 27, 2018
O would short term deal push Taylor all way— joe (@joeharrisavfc) November 27, 2018
Not saying yes or no to Ashley Cole, but he definitely does not fit the young & hungry criteria we are supposedly after, Villa fans. I'd say this is very unlikely & we are only linked because of John Terry #avfc #utv #PartOfThePride— J__T__T (@J__T__T) November 28, 2018
I like Ashley Cole. He's had a fantastic career, but if the MLS are letting him go, I can't see why a Championship side would take a look.— Crippy Cooke (@CrippyCooke) November 28, 2018
I know #AVFC will be linked as we need cover for Neil Taylor, but there's better and younger options out there.
On a short term until we can sign a proper left back in January then sure. Don't like having just Taylor atm, so someone would be useful but Cole is definitely not long term #avfc— Reece J (@ReeceyBones) November 28, 2018
