Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton has been out of action for nine months.

Brendan Rodgers has told Celtic’s official website that having Nir Bitton back is fantastic news.

Bitton picked up a knee injury way back in February which has proven more problematic than first expected.

The Israeli midfielder is only just training again, as he edges closer to a return to Celtic’s team.

And Rodgers is also set to welcome back a number of other players, as his injury problems at Parkhead lessen.

“Browny [Scott Brown] is in back in training, which is great news for us,” he said. “Leigh’s back in training, too, which is very good news. He looks fit and strong. It’s brilliant news for us in Nir Bitton. He’s been out for a long time but has come back into training this week and it’s like a new player in having him back.

“We have Jozo, and young Mikey Johnston still on the outside and Olivier Ntcham is back training and will be available for the squad at the weekend.”

Bitton could still have weeks to go before he makes a return to Celtic’s first-team, but his availability will be a major boost.

The 27-year-old can start in midfield and defence, and will bolster Rodgers’ options significantly.

Brown, meanwhile, could be back in action at Celtic in the very near future, and Rodgers has suggested he will come straight back into his thinking.

Celtic are next in action at the weekend when they take on Hamilton at the SuperSeal Stadium.
