Forrest scored a hat-trick as Scotland gained promotion with a win over Israel.

Chris Sutton and Charlie Adam reacted on Twitter by applauding Celtic attacker James Forrest for his marvellous display in Scotland’s excellent 3-2 UEFA Nations League win over Israel on Tuesday night.

Scotland and Israel came into the match with the knowledge that a win for either side would see them gain promotion to League B in the Nations League pyramid.

Israel took the lead through former Celtic ace Beram Kayal with an excellent effort, but Forrest equalised with a well-placed finish in the 34th minute. He doubled his tally less than 10 minutes later, after excellent play from Ryan Christie.

The Celtic ace then landed his hat-trick after a superb first touch from Ryan Fraser’s pass, though Israel did get one back but Scotland held on. Ex-Rangers man Adam and Celtic icon Sutton lauded the attacker for his hat-trick.

Prior to the international break, Forrest had a record of zero goals in 24 caps. Now, he has five goals in 26 caps after scoring a brace in the 4-0 win over Albania last weekend.

It sees the 27-year-old continue his sensational form after an eye-catching start to the Scottish Premiership campaign, where he has scored nine goals and created 12 more in 24 outings.

He is expected to start for Celtic on Saturday as the Bhoys travel to Hamilton to face Martin Canning’s side in a lunchtime kick-off, before travelling to Norway for next Thursday’s Europa League clash against Rosenborg.
