New Spain international Brais Mendez should be who Manuel Pellegrini looks to bring to West Ham instead of Samir Nasri.
However, Celta Vigo’s in form playmaker Brais Mendez would be a much smarter acquisition for Pellegrini.
West Ham have lacked a creative spark since the loss of Manuel Lanzini to a long term injury.
Nasri has been viewed as a temporary fix to the problem, who would give the Hammers a much needed boost after a shaky start to the season.
Pellegrini’s side currently sit 13th in the table, and have also lost new signing Andriy Yarmolenko to injury, making a new addition to the squad vital.
However, Spain’s latest star Brais Mendez would be a much better fit than former Arsenal star Nasri.
It took Mendez only 20 minutes to score on his international debut for Spain, netting the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Mendez has been in fine form for Celta Vigo in La Liga this season, with three goals and two assists in seven starts.
Compare that to 31-year-old Nasri however, who has been on an 18-month doping ban, and would also command much higher wages than Mendez, despite being a free transfer.
Mendez is 10 years younger than Nasri and can play on the left, right, and centre of attacking midfield.
The Celta Vigo star likes to effect the game, regularly taking long shots, but also has the technical ability and intelligence to retain the ball with his passing.
Mendez is also a very tenacious player, often seen winning back possession before springing counter attacks, and should cope with the pace and physicality of the Premier League.
West Ham should certainly consider signing Mendez in the January transfer window, before his price tag rockets.
