Inter Milan are claimed to want Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is reportedly subject of interest from Champions League rivals Inter Milan.
Inter are admirers of both Vertonghen and Tottenham teammate Toby Alderweireld, but they believe the former will be easier to sign and are put off by the clause in the latter’s contract.
The Nerazurri aim to land Vertonghen on the cheap, with his current deal set to expire in 2019.
Tottenham have an option to extend this, and Vertonghen told the Evening Standard in September he expects them to, although it has not been done yet.
Even if, as is likely, Tottenham extend Vertonghen to 2020, the Premier League side are still in a weak position next summer.
Negotiating a sale with Daniel Levy is never easy for interested clubs, but if Tottenham were to miss out on a top four place, then Inter may find they have the upper hand.
The two teams face off at Wembley later this month with Spurs needing a win over Inter to be in with a chance of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League, likely at the Serie A side’s expense.
Vertonghen is expected to miss the November 28 clash with an ongoing injury.
