The former St Mirren manager left for Sunderland himself in the summer.
St Mirren fans are reacting on Twitter to news their number one has retired to become Sunderland’s goalkeeper coach.
Sunderland confirmed Craig Samson’s arrival earlier on Tuesday, a move that reunites the 34-year-old with his former St Mirren manager Jack Ross.
Ross signed Samson at the start of last season, and the latter was a key member of the side that won the Scottish Championship that year.
He also started every single one of St Mirren’s Premiership matches this campaign, ensuring his departure was something of a shock to those of a Buddies persuasion.
And some are taking their anger out on Ross, their former hero who continues to win admirers on Wearside.
This is what they are saying…
Disgraceful. Retired and snaked off down the road to Jack whilst we’re totally in the mire and desperate for some stability.— RD (@RADavidson22) November 13, 2018
Fantastic, Sunderland take our goalie and we get the pleasure of watching us get pumped off them again! Disappointed to say the least, I know the clubs hands were tied but we are now weaker when we should be strengthening. Surely this is an end of season move, why the urgency?— Zab Yor (@dykebarsaint) November 13, 2018
Great. The best goalkeeper we’ve had in years. Gutting and massive blow will be hugely missed. Good luck Sammy ⚽️— Kiara (@kiaraloughran1) November 13, 2018
I’d rather have some compensation that watch another drubbing next summer tbf. Best of luck Sammy.— Elaine hagan (@elaineahagan) November 13, 2018

Good luck to him but the timing is shocking

Jack Ross really is become a dick now oh and also I hate Sunderland https://t.co/I6J0dhka50— Whitey (@EwanWhite31) November 13, 2018
Jack Ross is really starting to get on my tits.— St Mirren Banter (@StMirrenBanter) November 13, 2018
YES he saved us from the brink of league one.
YES he won us the league.
But his actions since the final day of last season have each had a negative impact on St Mirren Football Club.
Just my opinion.https://t.co/T99EX7hBdD
Jack Ross is beginning to get on my nerves…. Gets his move, takes his assistant and now takes our GK!— West Bank St.Mirren (@West_Bank_SMFC) November 13, 2018
I’m delighted that Jack Ross is happy in life but I care much more about St. Mirren. FFS!
Samson replaces Jimmy Walker at Sunderland, after the 45-year-old quit last week just months after he joined Ross’s coaching team.
Like Samson, Walker did so to reunite with one of his old bosses, the new Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert.
