Derby County manager Frank Lampard says that Jack Grealish was right to ignore reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur and sign a new contract with Aston Villa.

Derby County manager Frank Lampard has suggested to The Birmingham Mail that Jack Grealish was right to sign a new contract with Aston Villa amid speculation that Tottenham Hotspur wanted him.

According to The Express, Tottenham wanted to sign Grealish from Villa in the summer transfer window.

The report also claimed that the Premier League club were planning to make a move for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder in the January transfer window.


Grealish, who can also operate as a winger, signed a new long-term contract with Villa in September.

Ahead of the Championship match against Villa at the Pride Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Derby manager Lampard has suggested that Grealish was right to commit his future to the Villans.

Lampard told The Birmingham Mail: “The fact they were able to keep him when he was so wanted by a Premier League club. It was probably the best move for Jack in terms of his progression.”

Grealish is one of the best young attacking players in the Championship, and it is great for him that he has signed a new contract with Villa.

The 23-year-old is playing regularly for the Villans, and that is going to help him develop and grow as a footballer.

The 23-year-old has scored one goal and provided two assists in 16 Championship appearances for the Villa so far this season, according to WhoScored.
