The Sunderland duo featured in a training game on Thursday afternoon.
It is almost a year since Duncan Watmore suffered his second successive anterior cruciate ligament injury in a Championship match against Millwall - but his recovery has stepped up by featuring in a training game.
Watmore, 24, suffered his first cruciate ligament injury back in December 2016 and was sidelined until September 2017, but just two months later he suffered the same fate in his other knee.
However, he looks to be on the road to recovery for a second time, after completing 25 minutes of action in a training game. But fans have hammered Sunderland teammate Max Power for a physical challenge on the winger.
Sunderland posted a clip of Watmore's highlights during his 25-minute cameo, and one of those clips saw midfielder Power steam in with a slide tackle on the fragile Watmore. Wearing number eight, Power flies into a tackle on Watmore, below:

Power, 25, joined Sunderland in the summer from Wigan Athletic on an initial loan deal that will become permanent in January, and he has impressed in the red and white stripes - scoring twice in eight League One appearances.
But fans were not happy with his robust challenge on Watmore, and hammered Power - who was wearing the number eight shirt - on Twitter for his decision to tackle a recovering, injury-plagued player like that.
Is that Power trying to reinjure him?— Jordan (@Jordan_FF) November 8, 2018
