Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor
Rangers may have lost 4-3 to Spartak Moscow on Thursday evening, but one Ibrox player who cannot be blamed for the final result or the poor defensive performance is Allan McGregor.
McGregor, who returned to Rangers in the summer transfer window for his second spell at Ibrox, made a number of saves during Steven Gerrard’s side’s 4-3 defeat in the Europa League game on Wednesday evening.
Miller said about McGregor on BT Sport 3 on Thursday evening (7:54pm, November 8, 2018): “He must be wondering how he has conceded four goals tonight. He had three or four fantastic saves to actually keep the score down.”
Meanwhile, Hartson said on BT Sport 3 on Thursday evening (7:54pm, November 8, 2018) that McGregor was “excellent on the night”.
Reliable between the posts
McGregor may be 36 years of age, but the former Hull City goalkeeper remains as good as ever.
The Scotland international has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for Rangers, and his saves have kept the Gers in matches throughout the season.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, though, should not have to rely on McGregor, and has to make the backline tighter.
The Gers can still progress to the knockout rounds of the Europa League this season.
