Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez may be changing his mind over Elias Sorensen, after calling him up to first-team training.

The Chronicle reported last month how Benitez felt that Sorensen wasn’t good enough for Newcastle’s first-team yet.


The striker had scored frequently for Newcastle’s development side, but Benitez was said to be convinced that he had better options.

However, the Chronicle now suggest that Benitez has called Sorensen up to first-team training.

The Magpies boss has seen enough in the 19-year-old to suggest that the prospect could threaten his more experienced options.

And Sorensen now has his chance to show Benitez first-hand what he can do.

Newcastle desperately need to find a goalscorer, as their current options up-front have all failed to find the back of the net with any regularity so far this season.

And it appears that Benitez has had a change of heart, as he now sees Sorensen as a potential answer to his problems.
