Ex-Aston Villa forward Callum Robinson is reportedly wanted by Bournemouth.

According to The Sun, Bournemouth are interested in snapping up Preston North End forward Callum Robinson in January, in a move which would leave Aston Villa red-faced.

The Cherries already have potent attackers like Callum Wilson, Josh King, Ryan Fraser, Junior Stanislas and David Brooks, whilst Jordon Ibe is still in the shadows at the Vitality Stadium – but Eddie Howe appears to be keen another addition.

Robinson, 23, has dazzled for Preston this season, notching seven goals and two assists in 17 games, whilst also emerging as a top talent for the Republic of Ireland national team after switching his international allegiance.

Primarily a left winger who loves to cut inside on his right foot, Robinson has been one of the few shining lights in a disappointing season so far for Preston, and it’s no surprise that Premier League clubs are now keen after his red-hot form at Deepdale.

Preston would likely demand a huge fee for Robinson, and that would leave Aston Villa to rue their decision to let the forward sign for North End in the summer of 2016.

Villa chose not to renew Robinson’s contract, and settled for a compensation fee of just £170,000 when they allowed him to move on to Preston, as reported by the Lancashire Evening Post.

Robinson had come up through the Villa ranks but was starved of first-team opportunities, and even after relegation to the Championship, they decided to let him go rather than give him a chance.

The fee gained for Robinson is around three weeks of Yannick Bolasie’s wages, and if the Preston talent goes on to make a Premier League move, it will only highlight Villa’s dreadful error; both failing to give him an opportunity and then allowing him to move on rather than allow him to develop into the player he has become…a player who would surely get in the Villa side right now.
