The Aston Villa-owned goalkeeper continues to impress out on loan.

Some Aston Villa fans on Twitter would like to see Dean Smith bring Jed Steer back to the West Midlands.

The on-loan Aston Villa goalkeeper impressed last night as Charlton Athletic beat Walsall 2-0 away from home to move into the playoff places in League One.

Steer has been brilliant for the Addicks this season, and the decision by former Villans boss Steve Bruce to loan him out was slammed by Villa fans back in August.

Bruce preferred to use Orjan Nyland, a £1 million summer signing from FC Ingolstadt [The Birmingham Mail], but the 28-year-old hasn't enjoyed a solid first few months in English football.

Here is how some Aston Villa fans reacted to Steer's performance on Tuesday:

If Villa fans want Nyland out of the side, it probably won't be for Steer.

The 26-year-old is on loan with the League One side until the end of the season, and Addicks boss Lee Bowyer certainly won't want to lose him after reaching the top six last night.

In truth, Aston Villa should simply get a new goalkeeper in January - and they probably will. It'll be Dean Smith's first transfer window since replacing Bruce, and lord knows that Smith needs to sign a few players.

Villa are 14th in the Championship, but only five points adrift of the playoff positions.
