Does Scott McKenna now have the perfect chance to earn Celtic move?

Celtic reportedly made a bid to sign Aberdeen's highly-rated Scottish Premiership centre-back Scott McKenna in the summer.

Not for the first time, Celtic and Aberdeen are set to go head-to-head for honours.

The Hoops and the Dons will meet at Hampden Park once again at the end of November with the first major trophy of the season, the Scottish League Cup, up for grabs.

The presence of Scott McKenna in Aberdeen’s back line is likely to prove a rather intriguing subplot. Because, according to the Daily Record, a Celtic side in need of new centre-backs are big fans of the 21-year-old, having failed with a £3.5 million bid in August according to the BBC.

McKenna has established himself in the Scotland squad, even captaining his country on only his fourth international appearance, while standing out in the Premiership since forcing his way into Derek McInnes’s starting XI.

But this is the sort of game that could show whether McKenna is ready for a club like Celtic.

After all, talent is not enough at the Glasgow giants. Celtic are expected to win multiple trophies every season, so their players need to have the character to step up and perform on the biggest occasions with titles and trophies on the line.

If the £10 million-rated McKenna crumbles under the pressure at Hampden, perhaps Celtic should look elsewhere. But, if he performs in the most important game of the season so far, he will have aced his audition.
