Leeds United are monitoring Lewis Macleod’s situation at Brentford, according to the Sun.

Macleod has reportedly turned down the offer of a new contract at Griffin Park, where he is in the final year of his existing agreement, and is said to be keeping his options open.

At 24, the former Rangers midfielder will be able to leave on a free transfer if his deal runs down, and Brentford may be open to January offers, therefore.

A move to Leeds would likely appeal to Macleod, especially if the Whites can maintain their push for the Championship’s automatic promotion places.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently sit second in the standings, two points adrift of league leaders Sheffield United.

Brentford are reported to have paid £850,000 to prise Macleod from Rangers in January 2015, but have been without the former Scotland Under-21 international for much of his Bees career through injury.

The Sun notes that Rangers could yet rival Leeds for Macleod’s signature, with the Gers supposedly ‘linked with a move’ of their own.
