Glasgow Rangers missed out on a place in the Scottish League Cup semi-final as the Ibrox side were beaten by their Scottish Premiership rivals.

A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to slam Umar Sadiq’s display during the Gers’ Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat to Aberdeen – with many suggesting that they hope that the forward will not play for the Gers again.

Sadiq has endured an incredibly difficult time at Ibrox. When he arrived on loan from Roma in the summer, it appeared that he was going to enjoy a prominent role under Steven Gerrard.

It quickly became clear however, that Gerrard had his concerns as Kyle Lafferty was also signed late on in the window. And Sadiq went into the semi-final still awaiting his first start for the Light Blues.

With Lafferty cup-tied and Alfredo Morelos suspended, Sadiq was handed the chance to start at Hampden Park. Unfortunately, it did not prove to be a good evening for the youngster.

The forward was regularly caught offside and struggled to capitalise on the pressure that Rangers applied for the large majority of the game. He was also booked in the second-half for a scarcely-believable dive.

Sadiq managed to send the ball round the goalkeeper but decided to try and make sure that he was clipped and brought down rather than put the ball into the back of the net – which appeared to be a simple task had he stayed on his feet.

Some Rangers fans have defended the summer signing, but many have implored Gerrard to not sure him again. A few have also criticised the Gers boss for keeping him on when it was clearly not his day.
