Tottenham could not hold onto all three points in Holland.
Chris Waddle has blasted referee Slavko Vincic in BBC Sport’s live online coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s frustrating 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven away from home on Wednesday night.
Davinson Sanchez saw a goal ruled out in the first half after PSV had taken the lead through Hirving Lozano, with the linesman adjudging Harry Kane to have become active on the goal line.
Spurs did eventually turn the game on its head thanks to goals from Lucas Moura and then Kane in the second half, but they could not hold onto a 2-1 win after Hugo Lloris was sent off for a last-man challenge.
The French goalkeeper came sprinting out but fouled Lozano, before Luuk de Jong scored with moments to spare. Waddle slammed the referee’s display on the night, claiming Vincic got Lloris’ sending off wrong.
“I’ve got to say the referee has been poor tonight,” Waddle said. “Very, very poor. He might be alright in his own league but not the Champions League.
“I’ve got to say, I don’t think Lloris touched the player. I think he’s made a meal of it. The referee, after the reaction of the crowd, has bottled it. That is never a red card.”
Lloris will now be banned for what is likely to be three matches, as Spurs now face a tough task of gaining qualification from Group B with themselves and PSV on one point after three matches.
Barcelona beat Inter Milan 2-0 on Wednesday night and the Spanish giants sit at the top of Group B, while Inter are in second after wins over Spurs and PSV.
Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for a reaction on Monday night, as Spurs go up against Premier League champions Manchester City at home.
