Cast your mind back to the summer and Domagoj Vida was one of the most regular names in the transfer gossip columns. The fiery Besiktas centre-back emerged as one of the shock stars of the 2018 World Cup, helping Croatia reach the final and beat the likes of Argentina and England along the way.
It was reported that West Ham offered £20 million while Everton put £15 million on the table for a player who had never really had his share of the limelight until this year.
But by the end of the summer, West Ham and Everton turned to other options with Besiktas demanding £30 million. The Hammers signed Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena while another World Cup star, the Colombian Yerry Mina, moved to Goodison Park from Barcelona.
And just three months after receiving mega bids from the Premier League, Vida’s career could now take a strange turn.
According to Haberler, Vida is now the subject of a £9 million bid from Slaven Bilic’s Al-Ittihad – who finished ninth in the Saudi Arabian top flight last season. However, Besiktas want closer to £13 million.
His Premier League chance certainly seems to have passed him by now.
