Having failed to bring in any new signings over the summer, Tottenham Hotspur are widely expected to be one of the most active Premier League teams in the January transfer window.

Daniel Levy needs to deliver new signings for boss Mauricio Pochettino, even though the Argentinian is working wonders with the current Spurs squad right now.

Spurs need reinforcements, and TEAMtalk report that Tottenham are 'some way down the line' with a deal for Dynamo Kiev winger Viktor Tsygankov, claiming that Pochettino is an admirer and has given the thumbs up to a deal.

A move worth around €18million (£16million) is thought to be in the pipeline for January, and Spurs fans should certainly be excited about that potential signing – especially given one comparison made about the winger.

UEFA's official website compared Tsygankov to ex-Tottenham hero Gareth Bale, hailing him for his pace and dribbling ability as well as the quality on his left foot when cutting in from the right flank; just some of the attributes that made Bale a star at White Hart Lane.

Bale was a sensation for Spurs and then the most expensive player in the world in 2013, meaning it's a huge comparison for Tsygankov, and Tottenham fans would certainly be excited to see him in action on that basis.

After 17 goals in all competitions last season, Tsygankov has notched five goals and five assists in 18 games this term, and the 20-year-old looks to have the potential to go way beyond current Ukrainian wing stars Yevhen Konoplyanka and Andriy Yarmolenko.

Tsygankov may not reach Bale's level, and in truth it's hard to imagine that he could match the impact the Welshman had on Spurs, but having been compared to the former Tottenham star, Tsygankov may just be a major coup for Pochettino in January, even if he isn't a household name yet.
