Barcelona loanee Andre Gomes impressed on his Premier League debut for Everton on Sunday – is he Goodison Park’s new Mikel Arteta?

Andre Gomes arrived at Eveton this summer needing to rebuild his reputation after two horrible years at the Camp Nou. But there is a reason why Barcelona paid £35 million for the Portugal international in 2016 – and he has wasted no time in showing off his talents to his new supporters.
The 25-year-old made his Premier League debut at the heart of the midfield in Everton’s 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
And Gomes certainly made an impression. Strolling around the pitch, distributing the ball with class and precision, it was a performance of real composure the likes of which Everton fans haven’t seen for a number of years.

The former Valencia ace gives Marco Silva something new entirely with Gomes cut from a different cloth compared to the other midfielders at his disposal, such as the hassling Idrissa Gueye and the tenacious Tom Davies.
Now, Gomes has a long way to go before he can match the influence of Mikel Arteta at Goodison Park. Arteta is a modern-day club legend, after all, having made over 200 appearances for the Merseyside giants between 2005 and 2011.
But you can’t blame supporters for making the comparison.
