Former Chelsea and Leicester City central defender Robert Huth has suggested to The Times that he is not looking for a club, and this means that Aston Villa are not going to be able to sign him.

Huth has been without a club since the end of last season following his departure from Premier League outfit Leicester.

There has been speculation that Championship side Villa were interested in signing the 34-year-old central defender on a free transfer.

The Mirror reported last month that Villa wanted to sign the former Germany international centre-back on a free transfer.

Steve Bruce, who was then in charge of the Villans, was reportedly ready to offer Huth the chance to join the Villa Park outfit.

Bruce is no longer at Villa, with Dean Smith having replaced him at the Championship side, and now Huth - who won the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2005 and 2006 and with Leicester in 2016 - has suggested that he is not actively searching for a club.

Huth told The Times: “If you don’t play, you don’t play.” (the start of the interview piece reads - He is probably done as a footballer but why make a drama? The big retirement announcement, that’s for others.)

Sunday Times football correspondent Jonathan Northcroft further added on social networking site Twitter, as shown below.
