Tottenham star was compared to Sergio Busquets by Sam Allardyce.
Rio Ferdinand has fired a blistering response to Sam Allardyce’s claim talking up Tottenham and England star Eric Dier.
Dier starred for England last night as England beat Spain 3-1.
Former England boss Sam Allardyce reacted to that this morning by claiming Eric Dier is an equal to Spain legend Sergio Busquets.
Allardyce told TalkSPORT: “Busquets was out of sorts last night, and the praise for him has to be stopped because he’s no better or worse than Eric Dier for me. Busquets breaks play up and passes it, he’s very intelligent.
“He’s not much more than that but gets a huge amount of praise for it – Dier does the same, but gets a lot of criticism for it. We laud Busquets as a genius, but when it’s are own, we criticise him. Dier was far better than Busquets last night.”
Rio Ferdinand had this to say in response, claiming Dier would be embarrassed.
Come on Big Sam!!— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) October 16, 2018
Busquets has been the best holding midfielder for years & been an integral part in @FCBarcelona & Spain’s most successful periods….”he’s no better than Eric Dier”
With all due respect @ericdier himself would be embarrassed with that comment! https://t.co/9Sz9QER4hE
Dier was booked early on for a challenge on Sergio Ramos which set the tone for England, showing they would not be intimidated by their esteemed opponents.
The Tottenham ace went on to have one of his best games for his country in midfield, but as Rio Ferdinand points out, to describe him as an equal to Sergio Busquets is, in the big picture, a grand overstatement.
