Celtic may need to start thinking about a successor to Brendan Rodgers.

Charlie Nicholas answers questions during the Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

Pundit Charlie Nicholas has told the Scottish Daily Star (16/10, p45) that some decision-makers at Celtic want to bring Neil Lennon back as Brendan Rodgers’ successor – but he doesn’t see it happening.

Celtic have largely been a remarkable side under Rodgers, as they went the 2016-17 season unbeaten in domestic action, whilst they have also won trebles in the last two seasons.

The Bhoys have been racking up wins and silverware with Rodgers at the helm, but the ex-Liverpool boss has seemed a little frustrated since the end of last season after a poor transfer window.

A patchy start to the season and claims of a breakdown in the relationship between Rodgers and chief executive Peter Lawwell have resulted in suggestions that Rodgers could be on the move soon.

Links to Aston Villa and Newcastle United have emerged, and many believe that – one way or another – the Northern Irishman will leave Celtic in 2019 for pastures new.

That would leave Celtic looking for a replacement, and pundit Charlie Nicholas – formerly of Celtic himself – has told the Scottish Daily Star that he has heard some decision-makers at Celtic are looking to bring Neil Lennon back in if Rodgers moves on.

Lennon, now in charge of Hibs, managed Celtic for four years between 2010 and 2014, winning 70% of his games as well as three league titles, and is a real Bhoys favourite having also played more than 200 games for the club as a midfielder.

The Northern Irishman, 47, takes his Hibs side to Parkhead this weekend to take on Celtic, and whilst Nicholas is a huge fan of Lennon, he doesn’t see him making a return to the club as Rodgers’ successor.

“There are some inside Parkhead who see Neil Lennon as a live candidate to replace Brendan Rodgers when the time comes for him to move on,” said Nicholas. “I can’t see it happening. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have huge admiration for Lennon as a boss. I love the way he wears his heart on his sleeve and demands the same from his players. Celtic have been warned,” he added.
