He featured with the first team in pre-season so the delay to his campaign has been disappointing.
The youngster sent a message to supporters expressing his frustration, but also suggesting there is reason to be optimistic.
Fernandez says he is nearing the final stages of his recovery.
It is always frustrating to miss training sessions and games because of an injury. I have no other choice than accepting it, keep working and coming back stronger. Finally facing the final stretch of the recovery process with full desire to come back and compete. Let's go! pic.twitter.com/auh8atxMza— Víctor Fernández (@victorfdez98) October 14, 2018
The young winger has worked hard since joining Newcastle in 2017 to try and get near to the first team.
He will have to prove his fitness and form all over again before he convinces Rafa Benitez to throw him in.
If he can show his worth, it will be a big boost to Newcastle, who could dearly do with one of their young talents to start pushing onto claim one of the attacking positions in Benitez's side.
