Kevin Mirallas certainly produced some memorable performances in his five years at Everton. But, in hindsight, his spell at Goodison Park feels rather underwhelming.
The Belgian winger’s natural talent has never been in doubt but a lack of consistency and a questionable attitude certainly seemed to hold him back and stop him from fulfilling his vast potential.
And since moving on loan to Fiorentina in the summer, Mirallas has struggled again to show his best form. Injuries have restricted him to just one Serie A start so far with another three appearances coming from the bench.
Nonetheless, the 31-year-old seems to be happier in Florence than he was on Merseyside.
“My target is to remain here and convince Fiorentina to sign me on a permanent deal,” Mirallas told La Nazione.
“Fiorentina is a perfect club for me and the city is great. My family and I are in love with Florence. Everything is super here and I am ready to show that I am the right person in the right place.
“We are not living this situation as a temporary one but we want to make my stay permanent, it would be an extraordinary target for me.”
In truth, there appears to be no real reason for Everton to bring Mirallas back.
Richarlison and Bernard have been excellent since arriving from Watford and Shakhtar Donetsk respectively over the summer while Ademola Lookman and Nikola Vlasic, who is starring on loan at CSKA Moscow, appear to have very exciting futures.
