Everton may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Ruben Loftus-Cheek from a very unlikely source.
According to The Mail, The Toffees are keen to bring the 22-year-old to Goodison Park on loan in the January transfer window, although they would have to make Kurt Zouma’s temporary move from Chelsea permanent to make it happen.
Loftus-Cheek enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough season in 2017/18, starring during a temporary spell at Crystal Palace and impressing for England during their run to the World Cup semi-finals.
Since returning to Stamford Bridge, however, Loftus-Cheek has played just 33 minutes of Premier League football. And Everton fans will now be hoping that the gifted midfielder takes advice from former Toffees boss Sam Allardyce on board.
“If I were Loftus-Cheek I would be battering the door down in January and saying, ‘that’s it, I need to get away’,” Allardyce told talkSPORT last week.
“And not on loan, get away from Chelsea properly and build his own career. He’s got to play. He’s too talented not to play, we’ve all seen that.”
Allardyce was hugely unpopular among the majority of Everton fans during his turgid spell in charge of The Toffees last season.
But even the anti-Allardyce brigade will be in Big Sam’s corner with Loftus-Cheek on The Toffees’ radar.
