Glen Kamara is not a new name on Sunderland’s shopping list.
According to The Mail, The Black Cats are keen to bring the 22-year-old Dundee midfielder to the Stadium of Light in the January transfer window. But this is not the first time Jack Ross has attempted to bring Kamara to Wearside.
“There was interest from Sunderland in Glen,” McCann said. “I am delighted that he is still here because we didn’t want to lose him.
“There were admiring glances coming our way but I am so happy that he is here. We may have to fend off some more interest in future but I have always been clear that I want to keep my best players if possible.”
McCann was right. It looks like Dundee will have to ward off interest in Kamara once again in the New Year with Ross keen to enhance a Sunderland side well placed to compete for a return to the second tier of English football.
Dundee, meanwhile, have picked up just three points from a possible 24 in a dreadful start to this season so no doubt they will be fighting tooth and nail to keep the former Arsenal midfielder, who moved to Scotland on a free in 2017.
Injuries have restricted him to just six appearances this season, although he has already grabbed two assists.
