Germany were hammered 3-0 by Netherlands on Saturday night.
Netherlands picked up a real statement victory on Saturday night as they hammered great rivals Germany 3-0 at the Amsterdam Arena.
Germany are desperate to hit back having been knocked out of the World Cup in the group stage, but suffered even more humiliation as they took on Ronald Koeman's side.
Whilst Thomas Muller forced Jasper Cillessen into a first half save, Netherlands took complete charge of the game, and went in front when Virgil van Dijk headed home from close range after Ryan Babel's effort hit the crossbar.
Quincy Promes crossed for Memphis Depay to score the third late on, and Georginio Wijnaldum went on a superb driving run before slamming home the third in added time.
Germany may now be relegated from their group in the UEFA Nations League, and whilst there will be an inquest into what on earth is happening to Joachim Loew's side, Netherlands are thriving.
Ronald Koeman has his side winning and playing well, which is imperative after missing the last two major tournaments - and midfielder Wijnaldum played a key role even outside of his goal.
Wijnaldum often plays as a holding midfielder for Liverpool right now, but he was given more of a license to go forward on Saturday, and certainly impressed with an outstanding goal.
Liverpool fans then took to Twitter and called for manager Jurgen Klopp to use Wijnaldum in a more attacking role, believing he can finally solve their No. 10 problems, noting that it's time for Wijnaldum to be let loose having played a reserved role this season.
Personally, I want to see the Wijnaldum we signed from Newcastle under Klopp! Gini playing in a more advanced No10 role, running at defenders like he did for Netherlands yesterday. He could easily score 10-20 goals a season in that position!— RG (@RGLFC) October 14, 2018
Gini Wijnaldum in an advanced midfield role is fire.. We saw it at LFC in his first season.. He won't score many but his influence would be phenomenal.. I say we start trying out a keita - fabinho - Gini midfield with Gini playing as a 10— R I C K B E L L A M Y (@MrBig_Bones) October 14, 2018
#Wijnaldum and #VanDijk both scored for the Netherlands in their 3-0 victory against Germany. #Gini in the form of is life! Is he the answer to our missing #10? Well done boys! #YNWA https://t.co/LPqinsWkXv— Micha (@KalashnikLove) October 14, 2018
Is Gini Wijnaldum the answer to our missing '10'? He's played across the front line in his younger years and clearly still has it in the locker. Get Fabinho in at 6 and let Gini run loose! #LFC #Wijnaldum— TJ (@TomLawrence3) October 13, 2018
I do wonder if when Fabinho comes into the side could Wijnaldum play the 10?— Marty Sikora (@marty_sikora) October 13, 2018
Fabinho as the DM, Keïta box to box (where he was most effective for Leipzig) and then Wijnaldum as the most advanced midfielder (his natural position from his PSV days) is what I want to see.— Raj Chohan (@rajsinghchohan) October 14, 2018
I was never one of the ones that cried for Wijnaldum to be tried further forward. Until tonight— Hayden Barry (@haydenbarry1997) October 14, 2018
Said weeks ago that I’d love to see Wijnaldum get forward more. We know he can finish from his time at Newcastle. Great goal for the Dutch tonight.— Peter Simpson (@PeterSimmoYNWA) October 13, 2018
Gini is so capable of this. Henderson in the 6 and allow Wijnaldum to get forward. https://t.co/uAuXzL4Roi— Darren Roberts (@darrenrobs7) October 13, 2018

I like this attack-minded Wijnaldum. I’d like to see this mindset with the Reds, that was a great goal. Our midfield relies way too much on our front three for goals and we’re now paying the price for that in a way.— Dan Tenorio (@DanRedForLife) October 13, 2018
