Fraser Hornby posts injury update on Twitter; Everton fans respond

Fraser Hornby has undergone surgery on an ankle injury, and has received plenty of messages of support from the Everton faithful.

Fraser Hornby has taken to Twitter to confirm that he has undergone surgery on an ankle injury that ruled the Everton striker out of Scotland's under-21 clash with Ukraine - and his news has prompted several of the Toffees fans to send the striker messages of support.

Hornby has been making a real impact for club and country this season. He has unquestionably been one of the most impressive youngsters trying to break through the ranks at Goodison Park, while he came back to Merseyside following the last international break having scored five goals in just two games for his country.

 

The hat-trick against Andorra was somehow overshadowed by a superb brace against the Netherlands, which included a delicious long-range effort.

But it was announced that he was out of the Scotland squad for the European Championship qualifier with Ukraine on Friday night. And it seemed to cost Scot Gemmill's side as they lost 3-1 in Kiev and are now unable to qualify for the tournament.

And Hornby has now taken to Twitter to confirm that he has had to undergo surgery on the injury. The news is a major blow for the youngster, who would have been hoping to catch Marco Silva's eye as Everton's first-choice striker options struggle for form.

The likes of Richarlison and Theo Walcott have been lethal from the wider areas, but Cenk Tosun has scored once in eight Premier League appearances this term, so perhaps Hornby would have been looking to put some pressure on his teammate before he sustained the injury.
